Why is Michael Jackson’s death getting so much more coverage than Farrah or Ed?

I know Michael Jackson was a big star, but guess what so were Farrah and Ed McMahon. Don’t they deserve the same coverage for their deaths?
Farrah suffered for a long time with cancer, shared her story and died without marrying the love of her life. I feel much more sorrow over her lost fight than Michael’s death.
Ed contributed much to the entertainment world. Nigel said it best on SYTYCD last night McMahon’s Star Search was the precursor to all the realty shows of today.
Rest well Farrah, Ed and Michael.
I know Michael Jackson was a big star, but guess what so were Farrah and Ed McMahon. Don’t they deserve the same coverage for their deaths?

You answered your own question. He’s receiving so much coverage BECAUSE HE WAS A SUPERSTAR. If the media was to talk about McMahon and Fawcett, people wouldn’t even know who they are. With Jackson, everyone has something to say. Fans all over the world have fond memories of him.
Micheal was an International superstar. Go to any country in the world and they will know him I can’t say the same for FF or Ed.

it’s very upsetting, the circumstances..jackson died a few hours after farrah. However, his passing was absoloutley unexpected, and with more controversial possible causes, while we have been saying goodbye to farrah for almost three years, it was expected.
Michael was known worldwide, Ed and Farrah in the US by people 40 and older.
Simple question really.
Coverage?! I don’t think either Ed or Farrah are whining right now.

probably because his death was Unexpected while Farrah and Ed were both known to be very ill

I am sorry that he died but where were all these ‘fans” when he was alive?
because his death was sudden and he was only 50. he changed the world and ment more than youll ever know respect the people who helped mold this world for F&Ck sakes

Michael Jackson had more fans worldwide. Farrah is only know for being the Charlie’s Angel with the hairdo and Ed is only known for being Johnny Carson’s sidekick and Star Search. It’s sad, but that’s the ways things go.

He had mainstream popularity and everyone knew who he was. He was an African American man who gained more notoriety for turning himself white. His songs, persona, and antics were well documented. He was a very unique and eccentric individual. It was very suprising indeed that he suddenly passed away.

It came from no where.
Farrah has had cancer for years.
Sadly,there was a huge chance she wouldn’t beat it.

God won’t look at them any differently because of the amount of press coverage they get.

I think it’s because his was so SUDDEN, some people didn’t expect it, but they expected Farrah and Ed. It does upset that Michael got 4 WHOLE PAGES in our county’s newspaper and Farrah got to share 1/4 with the “cheers and jeers” page. Really immature. And I didn’t know Ed died until last night, because it wasn’t broadcasted well at all! I think all the deaths were sad, and it’s a horrible week for hollywood, Michael Jackson will be mourned. But, Farrah and Ed have their mourners too. And I am one of them. I think people thought of Michael as kind of one of those show biz guys that just doesnt die. You know? The world is mourning 3 tremendous people, but Jackson is the chosen focal point and attention stealer

Are you serious its like comparing our moon and the sun. I mean I love the moon but if the sun and the moon were destroyed I would obviously miss the sun the most. All those deaths are tragic but you just can’t compare MJ to anybody else…. except elvis Presley.
Well, Michael Jackson was (is) a legend. There can only be ONE MJ but there may be other Farrahs and Ed (no offence to them). Go to ANY country in the world from Somalia, Norway, India, or Canada…and they would know of Michael. He was a superstar who revolutionized the music world. And his legacy will live on forever.

ALOT more ppl knew Michael Jackson than they did Farrah or Ed…Seriously…HE was and will continue to be the biggest superstar who ever lived. I mean come on, show a 6 yr old a picture of Michael Jackson and they can tell you who he is…show them a pic of Farrah or Ed and they wouldnt know….My 2 kids (7 and 2), BOTH know Michael Jackson!!! But they dont know anything about Farrah or Ed….
Michael Jackson was a superstar and he was and STILL remains a legend in the music industry. I liked Farrah and I didn’t know who Ed was that much but Michael will always be a legend.
People talked crap about him without knowing the truth and no one should judge him on things he didn’t do. If he was a pedophile, don’t you think he would have been caught already and they would have found evidence that he actually molested a child? They never did so that proves he didn’t do it .

Michael was known worldwide, his music was wonderful he’s been in the music industry since he was 5 years old and some people grew up listening to him of course he would be the biggest news as for Farah Fawcett although she was one of the first Charlie’s Angels and she was beautiful she just wasn’t as big as Mike.( I just wanna say Rest in Peace King of pop and Farah)
Simple sweetie. EVERYONE knew Michael Jackson, they might have known him for his music, his ongoing court cases, his often imitated dance moves, or the fact that he turned himself white. Whatever the case may be, i repeat EVERYONE knew Michael. He was often labeled “weird” or “a freak” but really, he was the ultimate Definition of a superstar. He met with kings, and every single president that has been in office since he was famous (sadly, he didn’t meet with Obama though). Michael is an icon honey. Not to say that Ed and Farrah weren’t, but really, who is more recognized in the celebrity world than Michael? ALL generations know of him, where as, the older generations know of Farrah and Ed. But nevertheless, I send my prayers out to all their families.

its just that his death sprang up before people could even get over the death of Farrah(and idk the other person).
And since he’s a legend its a HUGE deal.
So they shifted from Farrah to MJ.

I was pretty sad when I found out about Ed’s death, but when I found out that Farrah Fawcett had died, I started crying. She was like my idol. “Charlies Angels” is still my favorite TV show. (I’m only 19) When I found out that Michael Jackson had died, I was more shocked than sad. Michael Jackson was, without a doubt, the most famous of the three. That is the reason why he has gotten the most media coverage.

Because (not to sound rude) Farrah’s death had been comming for a long long time. She had had cancer for years and now she’s finally out of her misery. It was inevitable that she would lose the fight since the cancer had spread so much.
But no one expected Michael to die. There are videos of him just from March and he looked prefectly healthy.

i was upset that only ONE channel, oxygen, showed “farrah’s story”.
but we have to understand that michael was an entertainer blah blah, idk…he was in the public eye A LOT while he was alive, being made fun of and stuff and no one was complaining then…
